April 2020 Marketing Calendar for Pet Stores

With everything going on right now, it is more important than ever that your store stays active, communicative, and responsive online.

Our pet store clients, ones without eCommerce options, are receiving more online orders via social media and email than ever. It’s not a surprise, given the shelter-in-place orders that are being enforced in various states and the social distancing techniques that pet stores are applying.

Regardless, our April 2020 Marketing Calendar for Pet Stores is a good way to use your pet store social media feeds to create easy, relevant content for your audience to absorb as online time skyrockets. Check out our other COVID-19 related content:

Some pet stores, after a spike in business over the past few weeks, will understandably enter a quieter time. Take this time to get on top of B-list priorities that never get done, strengthen in areas that you are weak, and to improve. Those that use the time, rather than allowing the time to use them, will come out ahead. You might also want to take advantage of a 30-minute consultation with a Pet Engine Marketing team member, free of charge, to talk about pet store social media, pet store SEO, pet store websites, crisis management, and beyond.

April is full of pet-related “national days” so buckle up, this is quite the list. With everything else going on, there’s no lack of opportunities for pet store social media content.

Daily Holidays

April 1-7: National Raw Feeding Week
Might be a good opportunity for a flash sale on raw foods.

April 1: April Fool’s Day
Unfortunately, nobody is fooling around right now. It would be nice if this was all an April Fool’s joke, but it’s not. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. If your brand is built around the fun and happiness that pets inspire, then it’s your responsibility to continue to inject some much-needed positivity and joy into the world today. An April Fool’s Day post can help with that!

April 6: National Siamese Cat Day
Easy content post - ask for customers to share their best stories/photos with their cats.

April 7-13: National Dog Bite Prevention Week
This is begging for an SEO or content marketing blog post.

April 10: National Hug Your Dog Day
Many will be working at home, perfect opportunity for this!

April 11: National Pet Day
Do we really need to explain this one?

April 12: Easter
Many of our clients have shifted their Easter events to something more digital or virtual. Consider selling Easter baskets ($20?) for customers to take home and hide the items (treats/toys/goodies) out in the yard for their dogs to find. Have the customers video/photo and post to tag you! Great oppportunity for fun, normality, and organic reach.

April 17-24: National Pet ID Week
Another blog post or content marketing opportunity in the making - the benefits or necessities of microchipping your pets and pet IDs.

April 21: Bulldogs Are Beautiful Day
April 22: Earth Day
April 23: National Lost Dog Awareness Day
April 24: Hairball Awareness Day
April 25: World Veterinary Day
April 26: National Kids and Pets Day
April 26: National Pet Parents Day
April 29: International Guide Dog Day
April 30: National Tabby Cat Day
April 30: Adopt a Shelter Pet Day
April 30: National Therapy Animal Day

MONTHLY Holidays

We weren’t kidding! April is a busy month for pet-related holidays. This April 2020 Marketing Calendar for Pet Stores can be your best friend - bookmark it!

Heartworm Awareness Month

National Adopt a Greyhound Month
Unfortunate timing on this as hosting in-store adoption events isn’t a great idea. Instead, reach out to a local greyhound adoption group (if possible) and work on building a partnership with your local allies. These can really benefit you, them, and the dogs in the future!

National Pet First Aid Month
More content marketing and SEO fodder!

Prevent Lyme Disease in Dogs Month

Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month

Active Dog Month
This is perfect as more people are going to be home more than ever - find a way to incentivize walks and social media posts among your customers.
