For Pet Stores

New Year’s Day

January 1 - Take the opportunity to shine a light on 2019 one last time and officially turn the page to take on 2020. As a pet store owner, you know that hitting the ground running after a busy holiday season is crucial to your business.

Some ideas from the Pet Engine team: Send an email, or create a series of social media posts, or a quick personal video, that showcases your accomplishments of the past year and sets your sights on your goals for 2020. If you’re sending an email, go against the grain with zero sales messaging to get a higher open rate and build that customer loyalty!

National Trivia Day

January 4th is National Trivia Day – who knew?  Looking for a great opportunity to increase engagement, grow your email list, and drive some revenue? If done right, setting up a trivia question can accomplish all the above even on a limited budget.

As a pet store owner, you can consider doing something like this with your team as well! Great way to improve employee buy-in and build excitement for the day.

National Dress Up Your Pet Day

January 14th is an absolute no brainer for a pet store social media manager. Not many things go viral quicker and easier than pets on social media these days. Make sure to show your own, and ask for your page followers to post their own and tag you in it!

You can also reward them for doing so, or run a contest online or in store for a $10 gift card! Easy ways to keep your community engaged and excited. National Get to Know Your Customers Day

January 16th - New year, new start, and a great time to learn more about your customers. Learning about your customers can be critical information that helps you decide which areas to put more budget, which directions to grow in, which tactics to pull back from, and more. It just depends on what you ask!

Consider sending out an email survey (with rewards if you want), polls on social media, and asking customers at the register of your pet store. This data is so important!

MLK Day

January 20th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There aren’t many days on the calendar as inspiring as this one, and at the very least we’d recommend or demand a post in memory of him. If you want to go further, talk about how what he has done has inspired you, changed your business practices, or impacted your life or the life of your team.

Honorable Mentions

A Super Bowl countdown is a good way to run a contest with football-themed items, prizes, polls, and other engagement tactics. Can’t forget about the New Years’ bowl games for pet stores in college towns as well!

January 18 is National Use Your Gift Card Day (third Saturday in January), so it might be a good opportunity to give one out!

January 24 is National Compliment Day - encourage your team to compliment everybody that comes through the door and build this practice!

January 25 is National Opposite Day and January 26 is National Spouses Day if you want to use those in a creative way as well.
